Backyard house
Backyard house began as an extension of a family house in the backyard and grew into a place to repose and retreat. The project moved with the idea of creating a warm and cozy space to revel in tranquility.

Project scope : Comprehensive architectural service.
Project Highlights : Material experimentation and training masons on site to work with lime.
Material Palette : Exposed brickwork, wood and natural lime plasters.
My Role : Undertook this freelance project during COVID-19 as a Project Architect, delivering comprehensive architectural service. Designing, site supervision, material procurement, coordinating laborers and craftsmen.

The design evolved around the existing trees in the site, the courtyard was designed to embrace the existing gooseberry tree and the allied spaces flow into them.

The Backyard house is an attempt alternative and sustainable construction technology using locally available materials and natural lime plasters. Local masons around the site were introduced to the ancient beauty of lime plasters and trained on site to bring out exquisite earthy finishes and beauty in its imperfection only peculiar to natural plasters.
